About the Architects

Silvio Rech + Lesley Carstens have spent the last twenty-five years running a niche architecture & interior design practice, specializing in one-off custom products, unique to each client.

Previously they lived and worked on site, in remote destinations, crafting each project to fit the context and the landscape in which the projects were situated.

Silvio and Lesley, and their talented team of architects and interior designers, now based in Johannesburg, South Africa, have worked on a range of projects throughout Africa which include luxury Safari lodges, High-end residential for high net-worth individuals, Private Tropical island getaways, luxury Boutique hotels, urban renewal projects and more recently custom office spaces.

In addition to architectural services, SRLC also specialize in the design of bespoke, high-end Interiors & Product design, including Furniture, uniforms and ceramics, which outfit the buildings they design, capturing a complete and cohesive language throughout each project.

Projects like North island Seychelles - (Conde Nast ‘Best in the World), Angama Mara (Conde Nast- Readers choice #1) Leobo Observatory (World Safari Awards- Best Private House), Miavana Private Island and the recent Jao Lodge (Design Innovation Africa winner)- have allowed the

company to push the Island and Safari language in different directions at each turn, and projects like Keurbooms Cottage in South Africa, have pushed the local architectural boundaries into more sculptural typologies.
